Advocacy & Action
Here is a snapshot of what we have been doing on your behalf:
We have been in touch with our members frequently since the COVID-19 situation began and a number of you have expressed concern about accessibility to the Federal Government’s Economic Response Plan for Small Businesses. These issues included: increasing the wage subsidy for Small Businesses from the initial 10% (now 75%), and reducing the required 30% revenue loss (now 15%); providing better access to loans from the Business Development Bank of Canada (BDC) and the $40,000 Small Business loans.
One of our important roles is to advocate on behalf of our members, to that end we have written to the following Ministers, highlighting the importance of easier access to these programs for our members, and our community.
In this ever-changing landscape, we know there is strength in numbers – we encourage you to send letters of your own to the following Ministers (details below), as well as your local MP, and municipal representatives, as soon as possible:
Minister of Finance
The Honourable William Francis Morneau
Minister of Middle Class Prosperity and Associate Minister of Finance
The Honourable Mona Fortier
Minister of Canadian Heritage
The Honourable Steven Guilbeault
Minister of Small Business, Export Promotion and International Trade
The Honourable Mary Ng
Working together for you: we are speaking with our fellow Associations, nationally and internationally, as well as our not-for-profit colleagues, and are working together to petition the Federal Government for additional support.
